Research Activity

At the same time with development of the industry and technics intensifies more the technological processes. This is a peculiarity of the overwhelming majority of the directions related to the new technics and it is determined by the considerable growth of temperatures, pressures and the speeds of heat transfer belonging to the physical and chemical processes directed not only towards the growth of the industrial production but also towards the improvement of its quality. In all practical cases the intensification of the processes that take place at high working temperatures is connected to:

  • the use of refractory materials
  • the degree of concordance of the owners with the conditions of use
  • rational realization of the refractory brickwork

The relevant mutations that lately took place in the refractory industry in our country and the developed countries reflect those significant mutations that are typical for this branch of refractory industry. The metallurgical production requires 60 - 70% of the refractory materials and the rest is used by the beneficiaries who also impose the refractories their own specific requirements. These are first of all the chemical industry the glass industry that of cement, ceramics electro-technical one and abrasive one and other branches of the industry as well as also the fields of the new technics.

Solving the complex fabrication problems of the refractories depends on the development of the technics and technology of the beneficiary branch of refratories of the existence of raw materials and their quality of the tehnics of refractory industry and of a series of other factors.
The main properties and at the same time the most important ones belonging to the refractory products are those the can best define their quality and respectively their possibilities of use respecting the given conditions. They are of interest not only for the producers but also for the consumers.

There does not exist a universal refractory product that can be used in any place and in any conditions. Each refractory product is characterized by some specific properties, based oh which one can establish rational fields of usage.
Thus in order to choose the best refractory product one must know the specific conditions of exploitation and also the most important properties of the product.

Not only the research done but also the experience have shown that one cannot determine the quality and refractory possibilities only by knowing one or two of the properties but one must consider the assemble of its chemical physical mechanical properties have interdependence relations among them.

However there are specialists who say that ideal would be to thoroughly analyze one or two fundamental properties that would determine the quality of a refractory product, increasing the number of tests and samplings that would lead to a higher degree of control efficiency.
The problem is very difficult knowing the severe conditions where the refractory products are produced very high temperatures and complex processes or destruction and deterioration. The most important task of the producers and consumers or refractory products is to establish in a near future the correlations that exist between the properties of these products the result of these determinations on one hand and on the other their wear.

The necessity of knowing the chemical and physical-mechanical properties for fabrication and use too, will survive even if there will be certainly established tight correlations between the properties of the refractory products, their values and their behavior when used, thus finding out the methods for lab simulation of the equal conditions or closed to the ones belonging to the industrial exploitation. This because the determination of some main characteristics will always be imposed by consumers. They will want more to verify the qualitative constancy of the products they receive to assure themselves that the quality of these corresponds with the norms standards and prospects , quality certificates or some anterior deliveries that were satisfactory.

Between all the properties of the refractory products there are tight relations of interdependence as they are shown in 1 From this table, one sees that no property can determine only by itself the quality and behavior at usage of the refractory product and that for this one must consider the set of characteristics and the given working conditions.

Research Programs

SC CCPPR SA Alba Iulia participated in the Research Programs financed by the local budget and had contracts with third persons. Till the end of 2000 took place the research program ORIZONT 2000 where SC CCPPR SA coordonated a number of 12 projects.

According to the government decision nr. 556/07.07.2001 it was established that the period of development of the National Plan of Development Research and Innovation (PNCDI), would be 1999 – 2005, and according to the government decision nr. 614 from 21.04.2004 PNCDI the National Plan will extend till 2006. According to the government decision nr. 368/28.04.2005 it was approved the Excellence Research Program taking place during 2005-2008.

With the help of the component programs of the National Plan for Research Development and Innovation there were financed from the local budget projects and activities of scientific research, technological development technological transfer, the turning into account and other activities that support and stimulate the research- innovation and development.

The National Plan of RDI and the Excellency Research Program have as basis a series of strategic objectives as it results HG nr. 556/7June 200:

  • The increase of relevance and the impact of the research development activities and those of innovation stimulation so as to satisfy the prior requirements in the economic and social field in the prospect of assuring the relaunching and the sustainable development of the economy
  • The intensification of the innovative processes and their transformation in direct support for the increase of quality and competitiveness of the products and services offered by the Romanian enterprises on the internal and international market
  • The concentration of the competencies and resources in the field of science and technology for the extension of the scientific innovation and technological national patrimony
  • The concentration and optimal verifying of the high level technological scientific potential existent in Romania
  • The acceleration of the process of lining up and technological integration of the economic agents according to the European norms and requirements
  • The growth of Romania’s capacity to assure the performant partners in the program of scientific and technical collaboration and in the international technology alliances

With the help of PNCDI there were financed the following prorams:
RELANSIN, MATNANTECH, CERES, INVENT, MENER, AGRAL, BIOSAN, INFOSOC through which there will be realized the strategic objectives comprised in the National Plan, or economic re lauching of Romania based on the competitiveness and creation of new work places as a result of the introduction of innovation in the economic activity the will coordonate:

  • The increase of the competitivity between units and groups of economic units
  • The adaptation of economic units to the requirements and demands of the market and the penetration of new segments on the market
  • The stimulation of technological restructuring and economical development at the regional and local level
  • The efficiency of the use of the resources by the economic units
  • The development of partnerships between economic units and between these and groups and units of research and development
  • The increase of economic units’ capacity to absorb and assimilate the results of the research development activities including the stimulation of innovation and technological transfer

SC CCPPR SA Alba Iulia participated in the PNCDI with the following projects as a project coordinator/leader:

  1. MATNANTECH – Contract 52/2001 – Products shaped through casting under hot pressure from hard refractory powders
  2. RELANSIN – Contract 1377/2001 – The modernization of the set of injection with inert gases for the steal casting ware ladles
  3. CERES - Contract 140/2001 – Refractory products cast with auto intensive for the metallurgical industry
  4. RELANSIN –Contract 1699/2003 – research regarding the realization of refractory plastics using pirofilitic schists of Viezuroiu
  5. RELANSIN –Contract 1700/2003 – The realization and implementation of lances made cold with water so as to modify the technological process of obtaining copper and optimization of the metallurgical elements
  6. RELANSIN –Contract 1749/2003 – The realization of a technological line for obtaining metal nets
  7. MENER- Contract 409/2004 – Research regarding the establishment of pollution and solutions in accordance with the norms of the EU community in the refractory industry
  8. RELANSIN –Contract 2089/2004 –Super aluminous refractory products with high durability for the set of barbotaging of the ware/ladles of casting of high capacity steal
  9. MATNANTECH – Contract 236 (406)/2004 – the obtaining of themo resistant ceramic blocks through the recycling of the refractory wastes with fine granulation
  10. RELANSIN – Contract 2080/2004 – Ecological technology for fabricating refractory concrete with reduced composition of hydraulic binder
  11. MATNANTECH –Contract 235 (406)/2004- New refractory materials obtained from ultra fine super aluminous powders
  12. INVENT-Contract 206/2005 – Experimental procedure for obtaining some semi acid refractory products

As a partner CCPPR participated in the realization of the following project:

RELANSIN – Contract 1700/2002 - The realization and implementation of lances made cold with water so as to modify the technological process of obtaining of copper and of optimizing the metallurgical efficiency.

SC CCPPR ALBA IULIA participates in the Excellency Research Program as a project leader-coordinator with the following project:

CEEX-Contract 232/2006 – New refractory materials with complex functions used in the steal industry realized through modern technology
And as a partner in the following projects :

  • CEEX-Contract 233/2006 – INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGY for obtaining unconventional energo technical resources used as raw materials in the elaboration of steal
  • CEEX-Contract 244/2006 - Oxidized natural and secondary materials used in the technologies of the powders which has as result the casting of steal
  • CEEX-Contract 299/2006 - Fundamental research and applicative one regarding the intensive transfer of thermal energy in the furnace destined to the obtaining of ceramic products of high refractivity
